Exercise is not just for losing weight but it improves the condition of your body including your mind. It helps stave off illnesses that affect the mind as well.
When you increase your physical activity you will release chemicals into your brain. These chemicals called endorphins cause one’s mood to be happy and pleased. This is why after exercise there is that “high” feeling that many people get. Exercise thus causes the brain function to improve making you more alert. Exercise will also increase your cognitive functioning. Those who run on a regular basis tend to perform better on tests. The reason is that exercise stimulates the body’s nervous system which will raise one’s level of cognition. This is true even for the elderly.
Many elderly people tend to get diseases such as Alzheimer’s. By exercising you can prevent these diseases from developing in those who are aging. Exercise will increase the growth of the brain thus preventing dementia and Alzheimer’s from progressing.
Other problems such as anxiety, stress and depression are proven to decrease when you exercise. Regular exercise will allow you to better cope with the issues that are causing these problems.
Exercise will lead to losing weight or getting in better physical shape but that is not the only thing that it does. Exercise is good for both physical and mental health.
