Five a Day at the Seaside

A day out with the family can be more of a healthy adventure and less of a task (like getting rid of grey with Majirel Hair Colour ) if you take up the challenge of getting at least one hour of aerobic workout and have a picnic that contains you five a day. The physical activity can either be obvious like bringing a foot ball or a Frisbee to the seaside, or you can trying and incorporate running, racing, and jogging into more sedentary activities. Think about having sand castle races, where you race to the water to carry buckets of sand or sea water. Race to look for shells or stones and the first person who collects twenty is the winner.When it is time for your picnic think about some of these tasty treats to eat as much fruit and vegetables as possible

  • Instead of potato salad make a parsnip or sweet potato salad this will count as one of your five add in peas or carrots for a second portion
  • Easy sandwiches include: tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella which will provide one portion, but you can go for something that incorporates a lentil or pulse to get another portion in, think about hummus, cucumber, and spinach for two portions or a Mexican burrito with beans, salsa, avocado, coriander, and lettuce which will be between two and three portions.
  • Of course the simple solution of fresh fruit for afters is the most straight forward, but if you are battling with the ice cream man, you could bring along bowls, bananas and strawberries, and add a soft serve ice cream.
